Why Few Factories Make Stainless Steel Gear Racks
Most factories choose 45# steel. It is cheap, easy to machine, and can achieve high initial precision through heat treatment. But it rusts.
Stainless steel is different. Grades like AISI 304 and 316L cannot be heat-treated. They work-harden during machining, which makes high-precision grinding slow and costly. This is why AISI 316L stainless steel gear racks are rare.
But precision must last. In wet or chemical environments, a 45# steel rack will rust quickly. Rust destroys the tooth profile, and that initial precision is gone.
Prototeque makes stainless steel racks for the long run. We machine them to your drawing and manage work-hardening. We hold tight tolerances on length and hole positions. Single length up to 2 meters, with spliced solutions for 6m and 10m.
We commonly produce module 3 and module 4, but custom modules are fully supported. We also provide custom stainless steel rack and pinion matching. They are ideal for marine, chemical, and food-grade environments.
